Photodynamic Therapy

Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) involves the application of a solution, Levulan, to the skin followed by a laser or intense pulsed light treatment.

The laser or light activates the Levulan. This leads to a mild sunburn-like reaction followed by peeling for 4 to 5 days. The treatment is also effective for precancerous actinic keratoses and acne. Non facial areas such as the chest, arms and hands can also be treated. This is used for the treatment of precancerous actinic keratoses and acne.

How Photodynamic Therapy Works

Actinic Keratoses: The activated Levulan penetrates into the skin to destroy the pre-cancerous lesions.
Acne: The activated Levulan penetrates into the skin to shrink oil glands and to destroy bacteria for the treatment and prevention of acne.
